On Wireless Home Networking Security

Please be sure to read through this completely before setting up wireless security on your network.

Wireless home networking is a very versatile and beneficial addition to your Huxley Communications High Speed Internet service; however, there can be a downside if you are not careful and use it responsibly. If you do not have your wireless network security set up properly, you leave your network (including all of the computers on it and the connection itself) wide open to attack by anyone driving by your house with a wireless-equipped computer. Your unsecured network can then be used, by this invading computer, to send out spam or attack others via your connection, or even access any of your computers for the purposes of stealing whatever information they desire, i.e. credit card information, passwords, and the like.

If someone were to send out spam, for example, from your wireless network, it will appear as though the spam is coming from your computer. This can cause one of two things to happen:

  • Your Internet services may be terminated.
  • You may incur repair shop bills looking for an infection that is not present.

Hopefully, you can see the importance of making sure that your wireless home network is secured from outside intrusion and exploitation. Please note: We are unable to troubleshoot and support the security settings for your wireless home network, as it is the responsibility of every Internet customer to secure their own home network.
